ACTION ITEM

Resolution 2022-51 – Membership Option Tied to Medical Licensure
Resolution 2022-51 asks MSSNY to seek legislation/regulation to include an opt out membership fee to be determined tied to initial medical licensure and every renewal.

We find this resolution to be both unworkable and unrealistic. First, due to multiple varied county dues and a number of membership categories with different amounts, we could not give the state a standard dues rate per doctor. And even if we could work this out, we don’t see why New York State would agree to collect dues for MSSNY over any other organization.

Most importantly, we don’t believe it is in MSSNY’s best interest to be reliant on someone in New York State government to collect our dues. We would lose control of when we obtain our largest source of revenue.

COMMITTEE RECOMMENDATION:
Membership Committee leadership recommends that Council not adopt Resolution 2022-51, Membership Option Tied to Medical Licensure.
