Dr. Daniel Choi Performs the First dualPortal Endoscopic Spine Surgery on Long Island

Board-certified orthopedic spine surgeon and MSSNY Member Dr. Daniel Choi is known as a pioneer in minimally invasive techniques. Recently, he had the honor of performing the first dualPortal™ endoscopic spinal surgery on Long Island.

It’s the most advanced minimally invasive spine surgery available. Previously, the dualPortal technique was only done in Korea, and dualPortal endoscopic fusions have only been performed routinely by one other surgeon in the United States at UCLA, Dr. Don Park.

With dualPortal, all minimally invasive spine procedures done through a tube or small incision can also be performed with the assistance of an endoscope. One incision approximately 7 mm long is made for the working portal, through which the surgery is performed, and another tiny incision is made for the viewing portal with the camera.

The approach gives surgeons better visibility and an incredible, real-time, high-definition view of patients’ anatomy. dualPortal, from Amplify Surgical, also enhances flexibility, allowing for a wider range of conditions to be treated endoscopically. For patients, the benefits of the dualPortal technique include even less muscle trauma and bleeding, smaller incisions and a potentially quicker recovery with less downtime.

“I am so excited to bring this revolutionary technique to my patients at Spine Medicine & Surgery of Long Island,” said Dr. Choi. “I’m proud to have had this opportunity and want to thank Amplify Surgical and Dr. Don Park for their guidance.”
