The Cigna Group Announces Plan to Divest Medicare Advantage and CareAllies Businesses

The Cigna Group announced an agreement to divest its Medicare Advantage, Cigna Supplemental Benefits (which includes Medicare Supplemental Benefits), Medicare Part D, and CareAllies businesses to Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC). This includes all their Medicare plans, networks, and customers, as well as its CareAllies services. This week’s announcement is simply the first step in the process as they work to transition the businesses to HCSC. They expect the transaction will be complete in the first quarter of 2025, subject to customary closing conditions and required regulatory approvals.

Please note that the agreement to divest these businesses to HCSC does not include any other part of their business under The Cigna Group, including Cigna Healthcare U.S. Commercial, Individual & Family Plans, or Evernorth Health Services.

No changes to the way you work together today!

  • First, it’s important to understand that this announcement has no impact on your current partnership or how you continue to conduct business together — it remains business as usual.
  • You will continue to submit claims, be reimbursed, and contact Cigna as you do today, as their affected businesses and HCSC remain separate companies until closing.
  • You should also continue to see and treat patients with a Cigna Healthcare Medicare Advantage benefit plan as you do today, with no changes to Cigna coverage, services, ID cards, or any other offerings.
