MSSNY Member: Liability Bill Would Limit Patient Care Access

Dr. Rick Weinstein, a Medical Society of the State of New York member and president of the New York State Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons, urges Gov. Kathy Hochul to veto legislation that would allow subjective damages in wrongful death lawsuits. If the bill becomes law, physicians will face an increase in medical liability insurance premiums by nearly 40%, leading to hospital closures and reduced access to care, particularly in rural and underserved areas, Weinstein writes.
