MSSNY Applauds SCOTUS Decision to Uphold Mifepristone Access
The US Supreme Court has found that plaintiffs challenging the FDA’s decisions with regard to the abortion pill mifepristone lacked legal standing to sue, allowing the drug to remain widely accessible. “Today’s US Supreme Court decision is tremendously important for ensuring that patients maintain the ability to receive needed reproductive health care services, including access to needed medications prescribed by their physicians,” said Dr. Jerome Cohen, president of the Medical Society of the State of New York. The MSSNY House of Delegates last year adopted a policy highlighting the importance of supporting the FDA’s regulatory authority and efforts to ensure mifepristone remains available.
