Behind MSSNY’s Policy Shift on Medical Aid in Dying

Dr. Charles Lopresto oversaw the debate around medical aid in dying as chair of MSSNY’s Reference Committee on Public Health & Education and notes that there was little opposition to the policy based on how it was written and presented to the society this year. Lopresto, president of the Medical Society of the County of Queens, notes that a clause allowing physicians to opt in or opt out of the practice was the major catalyst for MSSNY’s shift to support medical aid in dying.
