AMA Passes MSSNY’s “Guiding Principles for the Healthcare of Migrants” Resolution at Annual Meeting

During the Annual Meeting of the American Medical Association (AMA) in Chicago this week, delegates adopted MSSNY’s “Guiding Principles for the Healthcare of Migrants” resolution, which recognizes that migration status is a social determinant of health. By aligning AMA policy with that of the World Health Organization, this landmark resolution calls for advocacy to address the healthcare needs of migrants and asylum seekers in an equitable and non-discriminatory manner and underscores that investment in migrant health reduces overall public health costs.

MSSNY is grateful to the American College of Physicians and the American Academy of Pediatrics for their support in passing this important policy.
